Acting on a tip-off, the Dispur Police, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amitabh Basumatary arrested Mukesh Hyundai owner Rishabh Himatsingka from Dichang Resort at Sonapur on the outskirts of the city on Sunday, on charges of assaulting one of his employees.
As per police sources, Himatsingka was arrested at around 11 am from the resort when he was having breakfast.
Himatsingka allegedly assaulted one of his employees, identified as Kamal Das, at Mukesh Hyundai’s Ganeshguri showroom on July 5, 2018.
The incident drew attention of all as a photograph of Kamal Das, a resident of North Guwahati, holding his ears while other employees of the company celebrating something by cutting a cake, went viral in the social media networking site Facebook on July 5.

As per police sources, Rishabh Himatsingka allegedly dragged Kamal Das holding his shirt and ordered him to kneel down in front of the other employees present there while celebrating the company’s success.
Two separate cases (No 1864/18 and 1894/18) were registered under sections 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 500 (Punishment for defamation) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
While a case (No 1864/18) was registered on the basis of an FIR lodged by Orchid India on July 5 last, another case (No 1894/18) was registered on the basis of an FIR lodged by victim Kamal Das which was lodged on July 7 last.
On July 5, the All Assam Automobile Labours’ Union (AAALU) and Ram Sena, Asom also lodged separet FIRs at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati against Himatsingka.
Since July 6, 2018, the Mukesh Hyundai showroom at Ganeshguri in Guwahati and its servicing centre have remained closed.
As per an agreement, signed by the management of Mukesh Hyundai following a meeting with leaders of a number of organisations of the State led by farmer leader Akhil Gogoi, the Mukesh Hyundai showroom at Ganeshguri and its servicing centre would remain closed until and unless Rishabh Himatsingka does not apologise publicly for assaulting one of his employees.
The agreement was signed by Dhiraj Das Kashyap, general manager (Sales), Mukesh Hyundai, on behalf of the company management.
