Flash floods in North Assam’s Lakhimpur district have affected hundreds of people with the swollen rivers inundating a dozen villages besides Lilabari Airport following incessant rains since last Monday.

The overflowing water of Ranganadi and Kakoi inundated 153 houses in North Lakhimpur.

The Lilabari airport has also been affected by flood as rising water has submerged many nearby houses.  The road from NH-15 bypass to Lilabari airport was also affected by the flood on Thursday.

The Lilabari Police Outpost and Lilabari LP School near the airport were also inundated in the flood. Villages in Lilabari’s Balijan, Behera Basti and nearby areas were also flooded by the overflowing water of Kakoi river.

The worst affected village is the No. 1 Hindugaon where a wide area has been under water affecting hundreds of villagers.

According the district administration sources, 12 villages under North Lakhimpur revenue circle have been affected in by the current wave of flood.

The villages are Borimuri, Kashipathar, Putapukhuri, Chanmari Baligaon, Bohotiya, Borbocha, No. 1 Rangajan, Cherap Bhati, Borbil, No. 1 Hindugaon, 9/6 Koilamari and Sukulibhoria.

In Narayanpur revenue circle seven villages—No. 2 Tati Bahar, Burha Burhi, No. 4 Tati Bahar, Athanibari, Puli Naharani, Phutabhog and No. 1 Tati Bahar were affected in flood caused by overflowing Pichala, Sesa, Durpang and Dihir river.

The flood water of Durpang breached PWD road between Jothoruwa and Rongoti at several places in Dholpur under Narayanpur Revene Circle.

In Nowboicha revenue circle five villages were affected by flood water of river Singra.

The affected villages are No. 1 and No.2 Dejoo Pathar, 110/107 Grant Dejoo, Aranya Basti and Ujani Khamtigaon.

The Kadam revenue circle also has seen flooding in four villages namely Tenga Basti,Na-Ali Mazgaon, Mynahpara and Na-Bhaganiya.

Many school including Kendriya Vidyalaya at Lilabari, Sankardev Sishu Niketan-Lilabari, Lilabari Naamghar, Sangam Academy, Children Home-Chinataliyah, Chapari LP School and Dakshin Chanmari LP School were also submerged.

Crop area of 390 hectares was also affected by the deluge in the district.
