The outrageous behaviour of Badruddin Ajmal, the president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri, towards a journalist attending his media briefing has force the Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) reiterate its demand for a special protection law for scribes on duty across the country.

The EMFA, while condemning the outrageous behaviour of Badruddin Ajmal with journalists at Mankachar locality of western Assam on December 26, insists on formulating a special law protecting scribes on duty across the country.

A number of TV news channel reporters were abused by the AIUDF chief. He even threatened some of them. Ajmal reacted to a question raised by a reporter about  his next course of political move, which ended up throwing the microphones in front of him and use of  abusive languages targeting the reporter who asked question.
The EMFA stated that if a Lok Sabha member could behave with journalists in such a way, what
is being left in the world’s largest democracy. Ajmal could have avoided the question if it was too harsh for him. But his aggressive behaviour during a formal press conference only reflected his state of mind, which is unacceptable in a civilized society, it added.
Meanwhile, a number of FIRs have already been lodged against the law maker in
different police stations across Assam and EMFA urges the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, also in charge of State home department, to initiate steps  for bringing the process to the logical end at the earliest.

Journalists’ bodies across the state have staged demonstrations in various parts of the state condemning Badruddin and demanding action against him under the provisions of the law. Memorandum have been sent to President of India and Lok Sabha Speaker by various scribes’ bodies asking for action against Badruddin.
