After a successful New Year’s night, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the same rules will be applicable on the night of Uruka and no one will be allowed to drive after being drunk.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said that the police in the state will continue with the drive against drunk driving.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that since there was a great success in reducing the number of accidents in New Year, the government has taken steps to keep it that way even during the Bihu celebrations.

He added that just like New Year, people should avoid drunk driving and to ensure this, police will be on constant monitoring.

He stated that people should avoid drinking while driving.

“Since there are liquor shops open in the state, we cannot bar anyone from drinking but drunken driving should be stopped”, he added.

He added that there was no issue with people celebrating but the driver of the vehicle should be sober and should not drink even a drop.

The CM informed that strict actions will be taken against those who are found violating the rules.
