The Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS), a non-profit organisation, which prepared a comprehensive Disaster Management Plan in Dhemaji district, conducted a review meeting in four development blocks under the district.

The NGO working in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, Dhemaji, conducted meetings on capacity building on ‘Disaster Risk Reduction’ at Dhemaji, Bordoloni, Sissiborgaon and Murkong Selek (Jonai) blocks under the district and gathered feedback from the officers and flood-hit villagers.

The IGSSS on its concluding meeting at Murkongselek (Jonai) block on Thursday reviewed the Disaster Risk Reduction plan besides preparation of Recovery Plan after natural disasters.

Urging the participants for giving their feedback, the District Project Officer of DDMA, Rajen Saikia, said, “The IGSSS has prepared a comprehensive plan for reduction of natural disaster effect in flood-prone Dhemaji district.”

He asked the participants to gain technical knowledge on disaster mitigation including early warning and disaster preparedness, help the community people at the time of natural disasters.

Saikia informed that IGSSS in collaboration of DDMA already conducted a series of training including mock drill on rescue operation during natural disasters and other emergencies involving National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Fire Service-cum-State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence and other agencies.

He also requested the volunteers to ensure correct assessment of loss and damage caused by natural disaster through visiting the affected sites.

The organisers through consultation with the line department officials later constituted block level, panchayat level and village level Disaster Management Committees including the PRI members, Gaon Burahs, heads of offices, NGO activists and active community members during their two-day review meeting.
