Indo-global Social Service Society (IGSS), a New Delhi based non-profit organization with the help of local NGOs distributed relief materials among flood-hit families in Jonai revenue circle in Dhemaji district recently.

A team of IGSSS members led by its State Assistant Manager Dhoroni Payeng and Dhemaji district Project Officer Rajen Saikia distributed the relief materials among the worst flood-hit families of Mesaki and Bera-chapori area under Jonai revenue circle on Friday. The material includes tarpaulin, mates and hygienic kits.
There were around 600 worst-hit families.
The NGO activists also taught local villagers about hand washing and other hygienic practices, asked them to follow the rules to get rid of the infectious diseases.

IGSSS project officer of Dhemaji Rajen Saikia informed that the organization was implementing Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) project in Dhemaji district covering 6,100 populations of flood-prone 23 villages in Pachim Dhemaji area. As such, it has constituted three-tier Disaster Management Committee at Block, panchayat and village levels and engaged trained volunteers to look after their activities. It also implemented DRR project including flood-adapted wet paddy cultivation in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
Meanwhile, the IGSSS with the help of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has conducted district level consultative meeting on ‘Learning & Sharing of Knowledge on Disaster Management’ at Dhemaji in presence of officials from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire cum SDRF, officials of various line departments.
The IGSSS is working in across 16 states and one Union Territory of India. Through the year, it evolved as a major player on the development sectors in many districts of Assam, working on the theme of Sustainable livelihood, Urban poverty reduction, Gender equity, Climate Change and Youth development. It has also been carrying out massive animal vaccination, livestock insurance, women empowerment and pre-monsoon awareness camp in the district time to time.
The IGSSS has published a guide book titled- “Vhoi to Voice” designed as guide book for flood resilient communities in Dhemaji district, which was recently released in an officials meeting.
