The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said that the BJP-led government has brought various ‘false charges against those protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in order to muffle the mass movement.

Coming down heavily on the BJP government over the arrest of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi, the CPI (M) said in a statement that it is a reflection of the revengeful character of the government.

“The police also arrested CPI (M) leader from Sonitpur Lila Bhuyan, CPI leader from Dibrugarh Diganta Phukan and RCPI leader Kushal Chetia.

“In the same way, hundreds of members of different parties and organisations have been arrested by the police under non-bailable sections of different acts. This has proved the fascists characteristics of the present government,” CPI (M) Assam state committee leader Deben Bhattacharya said.

The party urged all sections of people not to believe in the communal messages spread by the government to stop the mass movement.
