With the demise of a 40-year-old woman on Saturday, the overall COVID19 death tally in Assam has increased to 37.
Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Saturday said the deceased, identified as Shanta Asharjee, who died of COVID19 infection, had pneumonia, type-2 diabetes and hypothyroidism.
The COVID19 positive patient was undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), the health minister said.
“Very sad to share that Smt Shanta Asharjee (40),a #COVID patient with history of pneumonia,type-2 diabetes, Hypothyroidism and admitted at GMCH, succumbed to her infection today,” health minister Sarma said.

The health minister has expressed his “deepest condolences” at the demise of the COVID19 patient.
“Death Audit Board to ascertain whether underlying cause of death is COVID19,” Sarma further said in his tweet.
In a tweet at 3:07 PM on Saturday, the health minister informed about the death of a 55-year old patient due to COVID19 infection in Guwahati.
The COVID19 patient, identified as Nripen Debnath, had a history of kidney ailment and was admitted to the GMCH ICU, Sarma said in the tweet.
