Himujjall Sarmah, an industrial designer and an alumnus of IIT Guwahati, has manufactured high-grade quality of face shields to fulfil the need for it in the hospitals of Assam and Northeast India.
The face shields, or face masks, according to a statement, are better, faster and cheaper in production.
Sarmah and his team have manufactured and distributed these face shields to healthcare workers, government offices and various non-governmental organisations in Guwahati.
“Despite of current nationwide lockdown situations, they have quickly designed something very simple that can be cut and assembled in three minutes. These face shields can be digitally fabricated via a CNC router because it is better, faster and cheaper in production,” Sarmah said.
The team has successfully able to manufacture & distributed around 12,000 face protection shields in 28 days time.
They have supplied them to 118 hospitals in Assam including GMCH, GNCR, Dispur Hospital, Apollo Hospital and Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute.
Around 800 doctors, nursing staff & individuals across Assam are currently using the face shields, he said.
They also donated 2500 face shields to government officials, NGOs, GMCH for COVID-19 response.
Sarmah’s design company Izake Design and Consultancy Private Limited is currently incubated at IIT Guwahati Incubation Centre and supported by Northeast Venture Fund, by NEDFI, Guwahati in terms of financial & handholding support in successfully running of the project.
