The COVID-19 cases have increased to 23 in Lakhimpur district in the last 24 hours, informed the Lakhimpur district health department.

The numbers were confirmed after the receiving of the swab test reports from the ICMR laboratory in Lahowal in Dibrugarh since Monday evening.

The affected persons were among the 664 persons who had arrived last week in North Lakhimpur from outside Assam and were kept in a quarantine facility at OPD College, Panigaon.

On Tuesday 4 persons kept in quarantine in OPD College and 1 in Subansiri College tested positive after the detection of COVID-19.

One more person from the district tested positive of COVID-19 in the district on Wednesday.

All the 23 COVID-19 persons have been admitted to the Telahi Model Hospital COVID isolation facility at Bosagaon in Panigaon.

The Lakhimpur district health department has also declared the OPD College and areas up to 1 km radius as COVID containment zone.
