If Covid19 transmission does not decline in the next week, complete lockdown will be imposed in some districts, announced Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday.

“Complete lockdown will be imposed for 10 days in those districts where Covid19 transmission does not decline in the next week,” chief minister Sarma announced on Sunday at Duliajan in Tinsukia district.

The matter will be discussed during the next State Cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday where it will be decided in which districts imposing of complete lockdown is necessary and the state government will make it public after the meeting.

In many districts like Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Nagaoan and Cachar, there has been no decline in Covid19 positive cases.

On Saturday, Biswnath reported 221 Covid19 positive cases, Dibrugarh 217, Cachar 175, Golaghat 249, Nagaon 228, Tinsukia 251 while Sonitpur district registered 295 new cases.

If the Covid19 situation continues remain the same, the state government may impose complete lockdown in such districts.

The Assam government gears up to impose complete lockdown in some districts which have been hit by Covid19 to break the chain of transmission of the deadly virus.

Earlier, in the Kamrup Metro district, the number of Covid19 positive cases touched 1,600 mark.

But gradually, the number of Covid19 positive cases went down and on Saturday, the Kamrup Metro district recorded only 199 new cases.

So, there is no chance of imposing complete lockdown in the Kamrup Metro district.
