Boat mishap in Assam’s Jorhat: Bodies of 4 persons including 2 children recovered

Bodies of 4 persons including that of 2 children have been recovered by the search and rescue teams from Brahmaputra River on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, four picnickers, including two children, were drowned in river Brahmaputra at Baghmara, 15 km to the west of Jorhat town in Assam.

The deceased have been identified as Razia Tikala (24), Sophia Chauhan (9), Sahil Chauhan (15) and Rajiv Rai (30).

All the deceased persons were residents of Phansi Ali in Jorhat district.

“A team of SDRF recovered the bodies on Wednesday,” informed Office-in-Charge of Pulibar Police Station, Rubul Ali.

Meanwhile, Jorhat district Deputy Commissioner (DC), Roshni A Korati has ordered a probe into the boat mishap.

The probe will be conducted by the West Circle officer Uday Shankar Dutta who has been asked to submit the report within 15 days.

The incident took place on Tuesday when about 10 to 12 picnickers, all from Jorhat, boarded a country boat that capsized in river Brahmaputra after going a certain distance.

The boatman and others saved themselves but the four including two minors went missing.

The bodies of the 4 missing persons were recovered on Wednesday.
