Doomdooma: The body of a 55-year-old man who had been missing since November 4 was recovered from the Dhola River in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Saturday. His disappearance was reportedly linked to financial difficulties over his wife’s medical treatment.

According to a local account, the man may have drowned while trying to cross the river to arrange money for his wife’s treatment.

The deceased was identified as Tuna Mura, a resident of No-Barmura village under Dhola.

A local resident told reporters that Mura’s wife had been admitted to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital in Makum and that the family was facing financial difficulties during her treatment.

The resident said Mura might have tried to cross the river to borrow money (udhar), despite reportedly not knowing how to swim.

He may have fallen into the river and drowned. However, this account has not been independently verified, and the exact circumstances of his death remain unclear.

Local residents spotted the body floating in the river and alerted the police. Personnel from Dhola police station and Talap outpost took part in the recovery operation. The body was later taken into custody by Talap police.

The circumstances surrounding Mura’s disappearance and death are yet to be officially established. Police are investigating the case.
