Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Tuesday filed an FIR against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Naharkatia police station in Dibrugarh district for her statement on the National Register of Citizens (NRC), accusing her of inciting ‘hate and tension’ among the co-existing communities with an intention to derail the NRC update exercise.

The FIR was jointly filed by three BJYM activists- Jagdish Singh of Duliajan, Mridul Kalita of Joypur and Amulya Chengiari of Naharkatia.

“The people of Assam have wholeheartedly accepted the final draft of the NRC released on July 30 but some unscrupulous politicians have been trying to disrupt the peaceful process of the NRC which is under the sole supervision of the honourable Supreme Court of India. One such politician Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of West Bengal, is trying to disrupt the peaceful process,” according to the FIR.

“Mamata Banerjee is trying to politicise the issue and try to reap benefits out of it. We condemn West Bengal Chief minister for her provocative speeches,” BJYM activist Jagdish Singh said.

Reacting to the NRC final draft which saw the exclusion of 40 lakh names from the list, Banerjee had said, “People are being made refugees in their own country. It’s a plan to throw out Bengali speaking people and Biharis.”

She further said that people are being victimised by BJP to win elections and it would lead to a bloodbath and civil war.
