Bhutan election: Border gate at Samdrup Jongkhar closed for visitors

Due to election in Bhutan held on Saturday, all the shops and other business establishments at No 2 Garage Line in Sashipur, remained closed since Friday evening.

Due to election, the main entrance gate of Samdrup Jongkhar was closed on Friday Evening.

No one from Bhutan has been allowed to come out to India from Bhutan and no Indian or no other foreign nationals have been allowed to enter inside Bhutan.

As all the shops along the Indo-Bhutan border area remained closed since Friday evening, the people in the Indian side have faced huge losses.

Moreover, the tourists have also been compelled to return from the Bhutan gate as the gate has remained closed.

According to a sources, the main entry gate of Samdhrup Jhankhar town of Bhutan will remain closed till Sunday evening.

As per media reports, in a major upset verdict in the first round of polls in Bhutan, incumbent Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been ousted from the race, and will not run in the second and final round next month.

Instead, the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) headed by Dr Lotay Tshering, and the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) will face off on October 18. The DNT won the highest number of votes.
