Good news for sports lovers of Assam even as young promising cricket star of the State, Ryan Parag will play in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ryan was bought for Rs 20 lakhs by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL auction held in Jaipur on Tuesday.

Ryan featured in the under-19 World Cup winning team and had shown promises to make it big in the cricketing world.

He was also in the squad of the under-19 Indian team that toured England in 2017.

Ryan is the son of former Ranji player Parag Das and nationally acclaimed swimmer Mithu Baruah.

Riyan, born in 2001) made his T-20 debut for Assam in the 2016-17 Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament in 2017.

In October 2017, he was named in India’s squad for the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup.

He made his first-class debut for Assam in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy in the same year.

In December 2017, he was named in India’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Notably, he was the leading run-scorer for Assam in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 248 runs in seven matches.

Interestingly, the surprise package was Tamil Nadu mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy in Tuesday’s auction. He had many takers before Kings XI Punjab made him the joint most expensive buy at Rs 8.40 crore.

The other most expensive player was Jaydev Unadkat, once again snapped up by Rajasthan Royals for the same price.

Unadkat was the most expensive player in last year’s auction, this time round, his price fell from Rs 11.5 crore the last time.

Meanwhile, top names like Cheteshwar Pujara, Brendon McCullum and Alex Hales remained unsold at the IPL auction on Tuesday.

After going unsold in the first round, Yuvraj and Guptill went for their base price of Rs 1 crore.
