Crimes related to children are on the rise in Assam, informed state social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma.
She was replying to a query by Congress MLA Roselina Tirkey on the second day of the monsoon session of the Assam Assembly.

“1071 crimes related to children were reported in 2017-18 and the number has increased to 1537 in 2018-19 showing an increase of 466 cases,” Brahma said.
She further informed that in the last three years, 963 cases of theft involving children were reported across the state.
“Children were also involved in 273 murders, 583 kidnappings, 603 rapes, 129 robbery, 476 beating and 708 ditching cases,” the minister informed.

She further informed that 109 cases under the Arms Act and 28 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act involving children were also registered.
