A herd comprising of around 150 wild jumbos created panic in the Upper Majuli region in the Majuli island district on Sunday night.

The jumbos destroyed many hectares of crops including rice grain called ‘aahu dhan’ in the Bonoria Sapori, Dhonai Sapori, Khora Sapori, Lason Sapori and Gejera Sapori in Upper Majuli.

Locals expressed anxiety over the loss of the rice grains.

Man-elephant conflict is not new in the island district. People have been facing the problem for long time. Wild jumbos destroy crops and properties.

Man-animal conflict is on the rise in the State.

The forest officials have failed to divert the wild jumbos from the region.
