Guwahati: A team of the West Bengal Police arrested an alleged poacher from Guwahati, Assam who was wanted for several wildlife-related crimes across India.
The arrest comes after a five-year-long chase by the West Bengal Police and Forest Department.

Following a tip-off, a joint operation was conducted in Guwahati with the assistance of the Geetanagar Police.

The poacher, identified as Risak Narjinari from Falakata, Alipurduar district in West Bengal, was finally apprehended in Ambikagiri Nagar, Guwahati.

Narjinari is accused of involvement in rhino horn and elephant tusk poaching across India.

A 2019 complaint filed against him at the Falakata Police Station led to a lookout notice being issued, forcing him into hiding in Assam.
He will be taken to West Bengal this week for further legal proceedings.
