Assam TMC expels its GS Avijit Mazumdar for "anti-party" activities

Guwahati: As the political parties in Assam gear up for the Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state on Tuesday expelled one of its General Secretaries from the party.

As per party sources, the General Secretary, Avijit Mazumdar was expelled according to orders by party president, Ripun Bora for his “anti-party activities”.

It may be mentioned that moments after the TMC announced Mazumdar’s expulsion from the party, he issued a resignation letter as well.

In the resignation letter, he claimed that he was forced to resign from the party.

A source from the TMC said that Mazumdar had made several statements on the media maligning the image of the party.

“He was also served with a show-cause notice which he did not reply to. Mazumdar made certain statements which were not on party lines and had damaged the party’s proceedings”, the source said.
