A safety clinic and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution programme under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was organised by the Odichi Indane Gramin Vitarak at the Borengajuli Satra at Dimakuchi in Udalguri on Sunday.
The event was inaugurated by social worker Hari Narayan Baruah and the programme was chaired by the proprietor of the agency, Jousrang Boro. Speaking on the occasion, Baruah urged the people, especially the womenfolk, to select LPG connections over traditional methods of cooking and, in turn, curb air pollution and environmental degradation. He also briefed the gathering about the health and environmental benefits of using LPG connections.

“The PMUY scheme has benefitted many Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Udalguri district. The nationwide movement for smokeless kitchen and empowerment of women and children under the banner ‘Clean Fuel, Better Life’ through ‘Ujjwala Divas’ scheme provides several benefits at length,” stated Boro.
Demonstration for safe handling of LPG cylinders was a part of the programme.
