Udalguri: The District and Sessions Court of Udalguri, Assam, sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for twenty years for the rape of a girl in Rowta in 2015.

The judge found Md Nur Ali guilty and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 under Section 376(D) of the IPC.

The court, however, acquitted the other accused, Md Sanaullah Ali, due to insufficient evidence.

According to the prosecution, Md Nur Ali lured the victim while she was travelling and committed the crime.

The victim’s parents then filed a police complaint (FIR) at Rowta police station.

Following an investigation and medical examination, the police registered the case under Section 376(D) of the IPC.

After a lengthy trial involving 13 witnesses and presented evidence, the court convicted Ali and acquitted Md Sanaullah Ali.

The court also directed the District Legal Service Authority to award Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family under the victim compensation scheme.
