Guwahati: The family of Niksamseng Marak, who was allegedly murdered inside a rehabilitation centre in Assam’s Goalpara district, has requested protection from the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Meghalaya.
Kilmeline Marak, the victim’s sister, submitted a letter on July 8 expressing fear of retaliation from the accused’s associates in Assam.

She stated that their names and faces being exposed in the complaint put them and their relatives at risk.
Niksamseng was allegedly murdered on July 4 at the New Life Foundation Rehabilitation Centre.
The centre initially claimed it was suicide, but a post-mortem examination disproved that.

The family filed a police report (FIR) in Goalpara, leading to the arrest of eight suspects. Two others involved remain at large.
According to family sources, the deceased’s wife received threatening calls from Assam in recent days. This prompted them to seek help from the DC.
“We request your intervention for police protection for the complainant and her relatives when travelling to and from Goalpara,” Kilmeline’s memo stated.
It further read, “There is great danger to their lives from the accused’s acquaintances and relatives. To safeguard the complainant and ensure peace between communities, we seek your help.”
