Another person died after drowning in river Barnadi (which is also called as Puthimari in lower part) at Hastinapur village under Nagrijuli police outpost in Baksa district on Saturday.

This was second incident of drowning in the district within 48 hours.

The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old farmer Chatra Bahadur Chetry of Pub Guwabari village under Tamulpur sub-division in Assam’s Baksa district.

According to locals, on Saturday morning, Chatra Bahadur went for feeding his cattle along the bank of river Barnadi.

While he was moving along the bank of the river, he suddenly fell down in river Barnodi as the river bank was already hit by soil erosion.

He was washed away by the current of river Barnadi. Since then, he remained missing.

However, at about 11.30 am, some locals found a body floating on the river water of Barnodi near Hastinapur village.

Receiving the information, a number of villagers along with a team of Nagrijuli police reached the spot and with the help of locals the body was recovered.

The locals and family members identified the body as that of Chatra Bahadur Chetry.

Later, the body was taken to Nagrijuli police outpost and the police sent it to Mushalpur for conducting post-mortem.

It may be mentioned that it was the second incident of drowning at Nagrijuli within 48 hours.

Earlier, on July 25, one 33-year-old farmer identified Sankar Das, son of Sunil Das of Hastinapur village under Tamulpur sub-division in Baksa district, drowned in river Puthimari.
