On the second day of their drive against illegal gambling in Dhubri, the Dhubri Police conducted another raid at Gauripur town and arrested two persons and picked up two minors on Wednesday.
The two arrested gamblers have been identified as 60-year-old Jahar Ali and Japiual Haque. They were caught red-handed while selling ‘teer’ tickets at Super Market of Gauripur town, 10 km away from the Dhubri district headquarter.
The two accused also engaged two minor boys for selling ‘teer’ tickets. The police also picked up the minor boys for being involved in illegal gambling.
Police sources said that a number of used and unused ‘teer’ tickets as well various other materials related to gambling along with a cash amount of Rs 5000 were recovered from the spot and were later seized.
It has been learned that the ‘teer’ ticket counter at Gauripur town along with two other similar counters at Super Market have been run under the supervision of Japiul Haque, son of late Basiruddin SK of Khudimari Part II village under Gauripur Police Station of Dhubri district.
The operation was led by Dhubri deputy commissioner of police T. Bhuyan under the directive of Dhubri Superintendent of Police Longlit Tarang.
On Tuesday, the Dhubri Police nabbed a total six gamblers for selling ‘teer’ tickets from the main market area of Dhubri town.

G Deka, additional superintendent of police, Dhubri said that the drive against such illegal activities would continue in the coming days in the district and sought active co-operation of the locals in order to wipe out such activities.
