Guwahati: Hemamoni Moran, wife of senior journalist Pratap Moran, died under suspicious circumstances at a private nursing home in Assam’s Tinsukia, with her family alleging medical negligence, incorrect treatment, and poor hospital management following childbirth.
According to family members, Hemamoni Moran delivered a baby girl on Thursday evening at Aditya Nursing Home (Aditya Diagnostics & Hospital), Tinsukia.
They claimed that both mother and newborn were stable and healthy after delivery. However, early Friday morning, her condition reportedly deteriorated suddenly, and she died inside the hospital within a short span of time.
The family has leveled serious accusations against the nursing home authorities, alleging administration of an injection nearing its expiry date, incorrect medical treatment after delivery, and incompetent nursing care and mismanagement inside the hospital.
Family members suspect that the near-expiry injection and negligence in post-natal care may have directly contributed to her death.
Following the incident, a team from Tinsukia Police visited Aditya Nursing Home and initiated an official investigation.
Police sources confirmed that all angles, including medical negligence, are being examined.
The Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association demanded a fair, transparent, and high-level inquiry. In a joint statement, Association President Ranajyoti Neog and General Secretary Biplab Chetia said: “If a mother has lost her life due to medical negligence, those responsible must face the strictest possible legal action. The truth must come out through an impartial investigation.”
The death has raised questions about accountability, safety standards, and ethical practices in private healthcare institutions.
Civil society members and local residents have called for stringent monitoring of nursing homes to prevent such incidents in the future.
