Guwahati: Thieves ransacked the historic Maa Mahamaya temple in Kokrajhar, Assam on Sunday.

Reports stated that the theft at the temple located in Kachugaon under Gossaigaon town in Kokrajhar, Assam took place at around 3:30 am in the wee hours of Sunday.

The incident was recorded on the temple’s CCTV camera system.

Police sources said that the temple staff reported a theft of gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 10 lakh.

The CCTV footage is being examined and it shows three people being involved in the alleged theft.

All angles are being investigated by the police, the source said.

The police said that the face of one of the accused has been identified through the footage and his identity is being examined.

It may be mentioned that the CCTV footage shows one of the accused seeking blessings from the idol before he stole the ornaments.
