Assam’s popular theatre group Badungduppa Kalakendra is going to hold its theatre festival ‘Under the Sal Tree 2019’ from December 15, 2019 to December 17, 2019.

The annual event of the theatre group is held in the sal forest of Rampur in Assam’s Goalpara district.

This year the festival which will be inaugurated at 9.30 am on December 15, promises an enthralling spectacle for the audience with some thrilling plays that will performed in a serene and beautiful location that is so close to nature.

Apart from Badungduppa Kalakendra, other theatre groups like West Bengal‘s Santipur Sanskritik, Bangladesh’s  Sadhona, Odisha’s Taranga Theatre and Manipur’s Khoripabha Artist’s Association will also be showcasing their plays in the upcoming theatre festival.

On the first day, two plays Kukuiraja and Rakto Upakhyan will be shown at 10 am and 3 pm respectively.

During the second day of the theatre festival, two plays Seetar Agni Porikha and Charandas Chor will be shown at 10 am and 3 pm respectively.

On the last day of the theatre festival, two plays A Night with Gandhi and Meenai will be shown at 10 am and 3 pm respectively.

Based in the village of Rampur in the Goalpara district of Assam, Badungduppa Kalakendra comprises a group of theatre artists from nearby towns and villages.

The theatre festival was first held in 2008 and was started by he legendary theatre director from Manipur Heisnam Kanhailal.
