The Tezpur police in Sonitpur district on Wednesday managed to seize five illegal coal-laden trucks.

Sonitpur superintendent of police Mugdhajyoti Mahanta informed that acting on a tip-off the operation team of Tezpur police at first checked a total of 31 coal-laden trucks in Tezpur area out of which five were found carrying illegal coal.

“As the staff members of the five coal-laden trucks couldn’t show any valid document related to the coal they were carrying, including the Coal India Limited permit, the police seized the trucks and registered a case,” said Mahanta.

The case has been lodged under sections 420/379/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The illegal coal-laden trucks bearing registration numbers RJ02-GB-4829 and UP63-T-9470 were seized at Thelamara area while three other trucks bearing registration numbers HR63-C-8453, HR46-D-8059 and RJ02-GB-366 were seized near the Tezpur town.

In connection with the incident, five individuals including Manser Khan (Rajasthan), Mirjapur Julfiqar Ansari (UP), Maharuddin (Agra), Rajen Yadav (Mirjapur) and Sukhbir Singh of Agra were arrested by police.
