Assam: Tezpur College win GU Inter College Cricket Tournament (Men)

Tezpur College emerged champions in the Inter College Cricket Tournament (Men) 2018-19 organized by Gauhati University Sports Board and Post Graduate Students’ Union, GU in association with Assam Cricket Association at Gauhati University Campus.

The tournament was held from February 25 and the final was played on Tuesday.

As a part of premier league cricket tournament in the final played on Tuesday at Gauhati University campus, Tezpur College defeated Gauhati University by 64 runs.

Batting first, Tezpur College played brilliantly and scored 206 runs for the loss of six wickets in 25 overs.

In reply Gauhati University team were all out for 142 runs in 17 overs falling short by 64 runs.

Suraj Talukdar of Tezpur College was declared Man of the Match in the final as well as the best batsman of the tournament.

Saddam Ansari was declared as best bowler of the tournament.

In the closing ceremony held on Tuesday, Dr Mridul Hazarika, vice chancellor, Gauhati University and chairman, Gauhati Sports Board handed over the champion’s trophy to the winners and congratulated all the teams.

Dr Hazarika in his speech said that all the teams were equal and played brilliantly. He also thanked all the players and the team officials for their cooperation in successful completion of the tournament.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, director, Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University and secretary of Gauhati University Sports Board congratulated the winning team and also thanked Assam Cricket Association for their cooperation in successful completion of the tournament.

Dinesh Ch Kalita, deputy director, Students’ Welfare, GU delivered the vote of thanks and congratulated the winners and all the teams for their good performance.
