Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday hit back at AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal for criticizing the Assam government’s two-child policy.
Swamy has questioned Ajmal, whose All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has 13 members in the Assam Assembly, whether his wife agrees with his thoughts or not.
A timesnownews.com report quoted Swamy questioning Ajmal, “Does his wife or wives also agree on producing 7-8 children each?”
“Women’s opinion also matters because they to go through nine months of pain and anxiety,” said Swamy.
On Sunday, Ajmal while talking to an international news agency hit out at the BJP-led government in Assam for its two-child policy and termed it against the laws of Islam, say reports.
A TOI report quoted Ajmal as saying: “Islam doesn’t believe in the concept of having only two children. No one can stop people who are bound to come into this world.”
“The government is not giving us (Muslims) jobs anyway. We even don’t expect jobs anymore,” Ajmal, who represents Dhubri constituency in Lok Sabha, had said.
As per the two-child policy announced by the Assam government, anyone, who has more than two children, would not be able to get government jobs with effect from January 1, 2021.
The report also quoted Ajmal as saying: “I would say my people should bear as many children as they want and educate them so they can open businesses, companies and shops to create job opportunities and also provide jobs to their Hindus brothers and sisters so they can also be happy.”
Stating that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat talks about having 8 to 10 children which contrasts the two-child policy of the government, the AIUDF chief said: “First, they should decide what they want.”
