Based on a tip-off, 37 Assam Rifles along with Cachar police arrested a suspected Rohingya from Bagadhar part IV near Silchar of Assam’s Cachar district on Friday night.
Believed to be a resident of Rakhine state of Myanmar, highly-placed sources informed that the suspected Rohingya had travelled to Bangladesh with a false identity by the name of Alom Hussain Mazumder.
After Bangladesh, he travelled to Saudi Arabia where he spent three months only to move to Pakistan with the help of conduits.

After staying in Pakistan for approximately three months, he travelled down to Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and started preparing for fake documents to infiltrate into India via Hasimganj at Karimganj-Bangladesh border.
“He even purchased a house at Lamba Basti in Baskandi of Cachar district and started meeting people travelling in vehicles with number plates of Tripura and Bihar which created sus[icion about him among his neighbours,” informed sources.
Sensing his identity at stake, he sold his land and shifted to Haflong.

Two years back, he returned again to Silchar and started staying at his wife’s house in Bagadhar Part IV, from where he was picked up on Friday night, said sources.
During a search of his house, a number of forged documents with multiple identities were recovered and the individual also accepted that he used the false documents to get his name included in the NRC, update process of which is going on in Assam.
Multiple bank account details with different PAN numbers have also been recovered, said sources.
The methodology to travel to various countries without valid passport is being investigated.
Alom Hussain Mazumder, a false identity with which he was roaming around, does not have any formal education, but, dairies found in his possession had suspicious coded entries in English language.
Words like ‘messenger’ and ‘enemy’ have been found inscribed in these diaries.
“Suspected to be linked with ISI and Arakan Rohingya Salvation Organisation, investigation into his criminal records, is under scrutiny of Silchar police,” informed a police official on condition of anonymity.
