The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi.

This was be the first bail plea of Akhil Gogoi to be heard by the Supreme Court.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court rejected Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea on Thursday.

Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea was heard by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices NV Ramanna, Surya Kant and Aniruddha Basu.

Earlier on January 7, Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea was rejected by the Gauhati High Court.

Akhil Gogoi has been languishing in the jail since December 2019.

Akhil Gogoi was arrested by the police from Jorhat on December 12, 2019 for his alleged role in the violence that broke out during the Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest that rocked Assam in December 2019.

He was booked in multiple cases, including charges of sedition and provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
