Guwahati: The Shrimanta Shankar Academy, in collaboration with Girijananda Chowdhury University, announced the third edition of the Bina Chowdhury Srimanta Sankardev Heritage Festival 2026 at a press conference held at the Guwahati Press Club on September 23.
The two-day festival will be held on October 8 and 9 at the Girijananda Chowdhury University campus in Azara, Guwahati. The event will focus on the philosophy and cultural legacy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, while creating a platform for young people to engage with Assam’s traditional heritage.
The festival will feature several competitions for school and college students, including Borgeet, Sattriya dance, a Heritage Quiz, essay writing and fine arts. Special Heritage Awards will also be presented to recognise emerging artistes from the region.
Apart from the competitions, participants and visitors will have the opportunity to take part in workshops on traditional Assamese mask-making and calligraphy. A Heritage Exhibition showcasing regional art and traditional crafts will also be organised.
A dedicated panel discussion will bring together scholars, artistes and cultural practitioners to discuss the relevance and preservation of indigenous traditions in contemporary society.
The organisers have invited members of the cultural community, educators, students and the general public to participate in the festival and celebrate Assam’s living heritage.
