Guwahati: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Azara, hosted four Inter Directorate Service Shooting Championship (IDSSC) Firing Practice-cum-Combined Annual Training Camps organised by the 7 Assam Battalion NCC from June 5 to July 21.
The camps witnessed the participation of around 400 NCC cadets in each camp from various NCC units under the Guwahati Group. The training was aimed at enhancing the cadets’ shooting skills ahead of the Inter Directorate Service Shooting Championship (IDSSC) 2026 while providing comprehensive military and personality development training under the Combined Annual Training Camp curriculum.
During the camps, cadets underwent intensive firing practice under qualified instructors and experienced coaching staff. The training covered weapon handling, safety procedures, marksmanship, grouping and zeroing, firing techniques and range discipline to improve precision, confidence and overall shooting proficiency in accordance with NCC training standards.
Besides firing practice, the cadets participated in a range of military and leadership activities, including drill, map reading, field craft and battle craft, physical training, yoga, adventure activities, personality development sessions, social service initiatives, cultural programmes and games. The activities were aimed at fostering discipline, leadership, teamwork and the spirit of national integration.
The camps also served as a platform to identify and groom talented shooters who will represent the NCC North Eastern Region Directorate at the forthcoming Inter Directorate Service Shooting Championship (IDSSC) 2026.
The training camps concluded on July 21, with organisers stating that the initiative reaffirmed the NCC’s motto of “Unity and Discipline” while promoting patriotism, selfless service and dedication among the cadets.
