Guwahati: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Assam, conducted a flood relief distribution drive from July 31 to August 3 across flood- and landslide-affected areas of Assam and Nagaland.
The initiative was carried out through the university’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell with the participation of faculty members, staff, NSS volunteers and members of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society.
As part of the relief drive, the university team distributed food items, clothing, hygiene materials and other essential supplies among affected families in Hahchara Chetia Gaon, Lebang Chaul Kora Gaon, Borhoting Chapori, Betbari Nimaijan, Changmai and Nimaijan Gorkosh areas of Sivasagar district.
The team also interacted with residents to understand their immediate requirements and provided support to affected communities.
The university delegation later handed over relief materials at the relief centre set up by the Sivasagar District Administration and appreciated the administration’s efforts in rescue and relief operations.
The relief mission was then extended to Naginimora in Nagaland, where essential supplies were distributed among families affected by floods and landslides.
Representatives of the Naginimora Students’ Union, Naginimora Gorkha Union and other local organisations were present during the distribution programme.
The team also visited landslide-affected areas and the relief camp established at the office of the Apex Konyak Union in Mon, Nagaland, where additional relief materials were provided to displaced families.
The university said the relief drive reflected its commitment to community service and humanitarian efforts. The campaign was supported by faculty members, staff, NSS volunteers, students and members of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society.
GCU also thanked donors, volunteers, local organisations and community members for their support in carrying out the relief initiative.
