Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday visited Karimganj and met take stock of the measures to prevent and contain COVID-19 infection in the district.

The first COVID-19 positive case of the state was detected from Karimganj district.

Sonowal held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner and other senior officers of the district.

Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP apprised Sonowal of the steps taken to lead the capacity building of the district to deal with COVID-19 outbreak and its treatment management.

Taking a view on how the district is handling its daily requirements especially during the lockdown period, the DC briefed Sonowal of all the steps the district administration has taken to make available of all essential articles to its residents.

Sonowal also reiterated on the need that while people should remain indoors during the lockdown period, there should not be a shortfall of any essential commodities.

He also asked the DC to ensure that the residents living all across the district should adhere to the advisory given by the health department and other line departments to maintain social distancing.

He also asked the Deputy Commissioner to give special care for the tea garden areas and the workers and their family live there.

Talking to the reporters later, Sonowal said that different functionaries of government and non-government organizations have been working day in and day out during the lockdown period across all the 33 districts of the state.

He also thanked the journalists for working tirelessly and giving everybody information pertaining to COVID 19.

He also said that everybody has to put up a concerted fight to wage a war against coronavirus.

At this crucial juncture, everybody has to rise above religious affiliations and desist from making any comment fraught with communal overtones, he said.

He also warned that if anybody tries to vitiate the environment with any communal statements, the law enforcing agency would not hesitate in taking stringent action.

He also thanked the officials from district administration, police administration, health personnel, cleanliness workers and all other officials who are working tirelessly to give a united fight against coronavirus.
