Sensation prevailed in Assam’s Darrang district after a body of a woman was found lying beside an infant at a public grazing ground near Mangaldai.

Mangaldai Police are yet ascertain the identity of the lady found at the public grazing field at Ramhari Adhamapara village some ten kilometers from Mangaldai.

The police have suspected it to be a murder by strangulating the woman with the saree that she was wearing.

“We suspect that the lady was killed by causing serious injury to her throat with a portion of the cloth she is wearing,” said officer in charge inspector Niranjan Baruah.

“However everything will be clear only after the receiving of the post mortem report,” the police officer added.

“The lady is a stranger to the people of nearby three/four villages. Hence we suspect that she was killed in some where else and left abandoned on Sunday night,” maintained inspector Baruah.

The incident came to light on Monday afternoon when a local villager who had come to the ground at around 3 pm for grazing his cattle and heard the infant crying.

He then found a male baby around couple of months old lying close to the body of a lady of around 35 years of age.

The police rescued the baby and immediately shifted to Mangaldai Civil Hospital for necessary care and treatment.
