Guwahati: In light of rising temperatures and increasing reports of students suffering from heat-related illnesses, the Kamrup Metro District Administration has announced the closure of all government, provincialized, and private schools in the district from September 24 to 27, 2024.

The decision was made following recommendations from the heads of various educational institutions reporting a surge in cases of ill-health and fainting among students due to excessive heat and dehydration.

“Based on the reports received from Head of the Institutions of different schools under Kamrup
Metro regarding various incidents of ill-health and fainting of students due to excessive heat and
dehydration and with due approval from District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, it has been decided that all Govt/ Provincialized/ Private schools functioning under Kamrup Metro district are to remain close from 24″ to 27 September 2024 due to excessive heat and rising temperature in the district,” read an order issued by District Mission coordinator SSA, Kamrup Metro district.

The district authorities deemed it necessary to prioritize the health and well-being of students by providing them with a temporary respite from the scorching temperatures.

The district mission coordinator for the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Kamrup Metro emphasized the immediate effect of the order, urging all schools under their jurisdiction to comply with the closure directive.
