Mizoram: Heavy ra Nagaland to experience heavy rainfall till Aug 29 in forces school closures in Aizawl, Kolasib

AIZAWL: Schools remained closed in Aizawl and Assam border Kolasib district on Tuesday due to incessant rain that lashed several parts of Mizoram since Monday.

The district administration of Aizawl and Kolasib issued separate public notices announcing that all schools will remain shut on Tuesday to ensure the safety of the children from possible disaster.

Incessant rain hit Aizawl and other parts of the state since Monday triggering minor landslides at several places.

Officials of the state disaster management and rehabilitation department said that no casualty has been reported so far.

At least 42 have been killed in natural calamities between March and May this year, they said.

Of the 42 people, 34 were killed in landslides triggered by heavy rain in the state capital Aizawl region on May 28, they said.

Nearly 6,000 houses were also destroyed by rains, hails and landslides during the same period, they said.

Officials also said that the state government has sought financial assistance amounting to more than Rs. 200 crore from the Centre to rehabilitate people affected by natural calamities and repair the damages caused by natural disasters.
