Another Revenue official of Udalguri district landed in police net on charges of being involved in corruption.
The Harisinga Revenue Circle Office in Tangla of Udalguri district has literally turned into a rotten ground of corrupt officials.
There had been allegations since long that a section of officials of the Harisinga Revenue Circle Office often indulge in malpractices by mismanaging registration, transfer of land records which led to the arrest of a revenue officer (Lat Mandal), Kanak Baruah, after a lady, Mohan Bala Nath, a resident of Ward No 2 of Tangla town, lodged an FIR alleging fraudulent registration of her land in other’s name.
Reportedly, the revenue officer had transferred a plot of land belonging to the lady, measuring 1 katha 10 lecha to one Dipak Das.
After the matter came to light, the lady approached the officer and later lodged an FIR at Tangla Police Station on Monday.
Tangla Police and the Bhergaon Sub-Divisional Police officer (SDPO), Barun Purkayastha picked up revenue officer Kanak Baruah for interrogation and registered a case against him and Dipak Das vide Tangla PS case No 2015/2018 under sections 120(B), 447, 506/409/468/471/387/420 of IPC.
The victim lady also approached the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) following which the arrested revenue officer was taken by Tangla Police to Guwahati for interrogation on Tuesday.
As per reports, the revenue officer, who has been allegedly involved in demanding bribe and doing favours of any extent to persons fulfilling his greed, had been enjoying political and social patronage of a section of politicians, influential persons and media persons and was allegedly given free hand by the Land and Revenue Department of the BTC.
The locals have appealed to the authorities concerned for stringent punishment of the official and bringing other corrupt officials to police dragnet.

Earlier, the Land and Revenue Department of BTC on July 2, 2018 suspended a revenue officer of the Harisinga Revenue Circle office on charges of allegedly taking bribe.
Reportedly, the revenue officer, identified as one Numal Daimari, had allegedly accepted bribe of Rs 10,000 from a person for registration of land, while a voice in the video clearly mentions that the accused had been previously paid a sum of Rs 10,000.
The accused, Mandal, also allegedly confessed that a share of the bribe amount went to the circle officer.
