Assam registered one more COVID19 positive case on Tuesday taking the total to 43.

The new positive patient is from Goalpara district.

With this, Assam currently has 10 active cases.

Earlier, 32 COVID19 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the state after their recovery.

The deadly disease has so far claimed one patient in Assam.

The news has been confirmed by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.

However, the minister has asked the people not to panic.

Health minister Sarma tweeted: “Alert – One person from Goalpara has tested positive for #COVID19. Since the person is under containment zone, there is no need to fear.”

The total COVID19 cases in India have crossed the 46,000-mark as per the latest update by the Union health ministry.

Out of the total 46,433 cases registered in India so far, the country currently has 32,138 active COVID19 cases while 12,726 patients have been discharged/migrated from hospitals after their recovery.

Globally, 3.58 million people have been infected by COVID19 while 1.17 million patients have recovered.

The virus has claimed the lives of 2.52 lakh people across the world.

Our Goalpara correspondent adds:  The infected man in Goalpara is an imam at the Dostinagar Masjid located in Ward No 13 and a resident of Bhatipara in Ward No 12 of Goalpara municipal area.

The person reportedly came in contact with a secondary contact, who visited the religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz in New Delhi in March.

Earlier the imam came in contact with a COVID19 positive patient, who has been released from Goalpara civil hospital after recovery.

Bhatipara is a thickly populated minority-dominated area and the people of the area are worried following the detection of the positive case.
