Assam records 1,879 new COVID19 cases with 10 more deaths

Ten more patients succumbed to COVID19 infections in Assam on Monday while the state registered 1,879 new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

This has been confirmed by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The health minister said the new cases have been detected out of 28,670 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

“Alert ~ 1879 #COVID cases detected today out of 28670 tests done in last 24 hours,” Sarma tweeted.

The health minister informed that Assam’s positivity rate stands at 6.55%.

Out of the positive cases, Kamrup Metro has reported 471 cases, Dibrugarh has reported 143 cases, 138 cases have been reported from Jorhat and Cachar has reported 133 new positive cases.

A total of 70,900 patients have recovered from the disease.

Assam currently has 21,464 active COVID19 cases while 3 cases have migrated from the state.

With the demise of 10 more positive patients, the death toll in the state increased to 252 on Monday.

Confirming the news, health minister Sarma in another tweet on Monday said: “Very sad & anguished to inform that ten more COVID19 positive patients have succumbed to the disease.”

The deceased are from Cachar, Karbi Anglong, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Cachar, Nagaon, Kokrajhar and Charaideo districts.

In Cachar, 3 positive patients have died of COVID19 infections.

The COVID19 victims from Cachar have been identified as 48-year-old Shila Begum Mazumdar, 48-year-old Debobrata Deb, and 64-year-old Srinibash Kangsa Banik.

The other victims have been identified as 60-year-old Chitra Dey from Karbi Anglong; 61-yr-old Bedand Ao from Jorhat; 45-yr-old Bobita Singh from Dibrugarh; 75-year-old Ranadhir Sharma from Karimganj; 55-year-old Anjina Begum from Nagaon; 53-year-old Dr Amal Machary from Kokrajhar and 57-year-old Usuf Ali from Charaideo.

“My condolences to all the families. We stand by you in this hour of grief,” Sarma tweeted.
