The State Government has appointed four new members of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in an order issued on Monday.

Among the new members of the APSC include Mukti Gogoi, Commissioner, NAD and Commissioner and Secretary at Assam Handloom, Textile and Sericulture Department, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department and Assam Silk Outreach Mission Director.

Prafulla Kumar Hazoary, Commissioner and Secretary, Welfare of Plain tribes and backward Classes Department; Mines and Minerals, has also been appointed as a new member of the APSC.

The two other new members are – Sajalendu Das Laskar, Associate Professor and HoD, Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Cachar College, and Dr Ajanta Nath, HoD, Department of Statistics, Tyagbir Hem Baruah College in Sonitpur district.

As per a State government order vide no ABP 5/2018/142 issued by Dr KK Dwidevi, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, Personnel Department, the new members of the APSC have been appointed exercising the Clause (1) of Article 316 of the Indian Constitution and Regulation 4 of Assam Public Service Commission Regulation 1951 and 4 (vi) Assam Public Service Commission (Amendment) regulation 2009.

It may be mentioned that the APSC members Samedur Rahman and Basanta Doley were arrested along with APSC Chairman Rakesh Paul by Dibrugarh Police in 2016 for their alleged involvement in multi-crore cash-for-job scam following which they were suspended from their service.

Apart from Dhruba Hazarika who has been serving as the APSC Chairman, as per the APSC website on May 14, 2018, there is only one member in the Commission – Dipak Kumar Sarma.
