Assam: Picnicker from Pathsala drowns in river Beki near Manas National Park

A person, who went to Manas National Park for enjoying a picnic, drowned in river Beki on Sunday.

The river flows near the Manas National Park.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Chandan Choudhury, a resident of Janpar area of Pathsala under Barpeta district.

According to sources, the person was a part of a picnic team which went to Manas National Park along with his family members.

“The married man, who went to enjoy boating in river Beki at Narayanguri Ghat near Manas National Park, suddenly fell from the boat in his he was travelling after it hit another boat in the river,” said sources.

The man went to enjoy the picnic along with his wife and two children.

He was an employee of the panchayat department of Assam.

It is alleged that a number of boats have been running an illegal business of boating in river Beki taking advantage of lack of proper monitoring and security measures.

Locals said many of the boats have no permission from the authorities.

After the incident, the authorities seized the boat.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom in the locality.
