“Carry a dustbin bag instead of a DSLR camera to the picnic spot” is what budding mime artist from Assam Minangka Deka has to tell the picnickers.
“With the advent of winters, people across the state throng to various places surrounded with scenic beauty for a picnic,” Deka said while speaking to Northeast Now.

“And as various groups keep visiting the same places over and over again, the places often get polluted and the scenic beauty is lost by the human encroachments,” he added.
To create awareness, the environment activist has come up with a number of placard messages and started the #ChaloPicnicDhyanSe campaign as well.
“Don’t throw the liquor bottles in the river, but bring them back to store edible oil instead,” reads one placard message.

“Please keep the place clean while you return from the picnic,” reads another message.
In one of the message, the young activist has urged the picnickers to not pollute the rivers with plastic.
“Click selfies with the rivers and make them popular, but kindly don’t pollute those with plastic,” he says.
“We love to spend some time amid nature with our loved ones. Our enjoyment should not hamper the nature,” he further says.
Minangka and his team in 2018 visited the Deepor Beel and performed mime to aware people on pollution.
“We are ready for this year as well,” he adds on.
Deka has been campaigning for #SaveDeeporBeel campaign for the past one year. His efforts have yielded fruits as well since people living nearby the Ramsar Site now keeps a vigil and see that no one litters the area.
“I hope people will help us and join our campaign and will have a cleaner and litter-free picnic this year,” he reiterates.
