Manas National Park opens for tourists

Amid Covid-19 scare, the Manas National Park (MNP) in Assam has reopened for tourism after remaining closed during the monsoon season.

AM Singh, principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) and head of forest force (HoFF), opened the park for the tourists on Friday by breaking a coconut. The park had been closed since March this year.

Sources said the tourists, however, will have to maintain Covid-19 protocol while visiting the World Heritage Site.

The park was formally declared open by PCCF Singh at a function held in connection with the 66th Wildlife Week organised by the MNP authorities at Salbari in Baksa district.

Amit Sahai, principal chief conservator of forest (Wildlife) , Assam, Aninda Swargowary, Additional PCCF, Dharanidhar Baro, OSD to Manas National Park, among others attended the function.

The MNP was elevated to a biosphere reserve in 1989 by UNESCO while it was recognised as a World Heritage Site in 1995.
