The overflowing Subansiri River has flooded large areas at Biranabari region of Majuli, the river island district of Assam.
Five villages like Arjunguri, Baralimora, Barunchuk and Silakola of the region are reeling under severe flood.
The floodwaters have not only inundated the PWD road connecting the region, but also washed away the only bamboo bridge in the area causing much hardship to the locals.
This has become a regular phenomenon for the residents of the region every year.
Though the people are forced to move from one place to the other in paddle boats, water hyacinth has clogged large areas of middle Majuli making movement of these boats difficult and dangerous.
Even the school children are giving their classes a miss.
Such sordid tales of woes during the monsoon season has become a way of life for the residents of Majuli.
