More than 500 appliciants of Bengali community of a village in Assam’s Tezpur have been excluded from the final NRC list.

A village of Tezpur, named Barguri under Tezpur police station where around 800 appliciants of 168 families applied fro NRC, more than 500 names have been excluded.

The villagers came from East Pakistan in 1964 during the regime of then Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Neheru.

They were given shelter as refugees after discussion with state government.

Government of India provided them shelter as refugees and later in 1969-70, they were given government land allotment and provided help Rs five thousand each and for settlement.

According to the villagers, some even got government service as they have proper document from the central government and certificate from then deputy commissioner of Darrang.

Though the Supreme Court ordered to check their documents, the people have alleged that the NRC authority did not check and re examine there document.

“It is a great negligence by the NSK officials and resulted in these more 500 people not finding their names in the final NRC,” said Biplob Das, a villager of Borguri.
