Names of 1414 indigenous families which comprise koch-rajbhonsi, garo, dimasa, dalo and Bengali of Darapathar Village of Lumding Consistuency under Assam’s Hojai district did not appear in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC).
These families came to Assam on the call of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru from East Pakistan in the year 1964 as they were tortured in the name of religion there.

At first they were sheltered at different refugee centres in Goalpara district.
Later on, they were given refugee certificate from State Government and shifted to this Darapathar Village in the year 1967,
They were provided with land, cow, money etc, for survival.
Prabesh Sarkar, the only refugee who is alive who came to Assam from East Pakistan in the year 1964 expressed serious concern about the NRC.
However his name has figured NRC final list but his brothers’ names have been excluded.
He said,” We had submitted all the documents along with the refugee certificate presented by the government but these were not accepted by NRC authorities.”
“Around 4000 people from 1414 families of Darparthar village have been let out of the final list,” he added
“If after the application in Foreigners Tribunal also our names do not figures in NRC, we will be bound to launch a massive demonstration against NRC officials,” a resident of Darparthar village said.
